On our recent trip to Universal Studios Hollywood, we decided to have all meals at the Three Broomsticks as we enjoy the theme of the restaurant. In addition, it is sit down dining and has air conditioning. We ate breakfast here both days and came for a supper and later for dessert. Here’s a Trip Report for Wizarding World of Harry Potter Food; everything we ate and our review.
We ate breakfast at the Three Broomsticks on both days of our trip. On our first day, we all selected items we have had on prior trips. The Eggy Bread is still delicious and a sweet way to start your day. It includes french toast and bacon. If you would like to make this dish at home, I have recreated it here.
The Traditional American Breakfast includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes and a croissant. This is a very filling breakfast and tastes great, a traditional option many will enjoy.
The Traditional English Breakfast is something my oldest son has selected for both of our visits to Universal Studios. It includes scrambled eggs, ham, sausage links, black pudding, bacon, baked beans, baked tomato, biscuit and potatoes with mushrooms. This is a very hearty meal and one that is difficult even for my son to finish.
I tried the Continental Breakfast the second day. I loved that it was lighter with the fruit and scone, and I was very satisfied and not at all hungry. I would recommend this dish. In fact we would recommend all the breakfast dishes that we tried.
My youngest had the ribs platter. It included a lot of ribs, a full ear of corn and potatoes. Again, this was a ton of food. Even he couldn’t finish it and had to share.
A new menu options we tried was the Ploughman’s lunch. This is a charcuterie board with a selection of meats and cheeses, a Scotch egg, chutney, mustard, fruit, and a variety of pickles, onions and olives. It also had a couple slices of toasted bread, apples, grapes and a jam. This was an interesting variety options and we all really enjoyed it. This was my meal and it was very filling, I shared it with the entire table.
Cheese Toastie with Chicken
My oldest selected the Cheese Toastie with Chicken and said it was very good. It is a chicken sandwich with an egg on top served with a side salad. It’s a messy dish, plan to eat it with your fork and knife. I will be trying to replicate this dish.
We asked the staff member in front of the Three Broomsticks what dessert they would recommend. She said she really liked the Apple Pie. My son selected the Apple Pie for his dessert as this is a favorite for him. The pie he received looked much better than the sample they had on hand. It was taller and more full of fruit. It was delicious.
We also tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Chocolate Trifle, but I apparently didn’t take good pictures of these desserts. The Chocolate Trifle had a chocolate mouse with berries at the bottom, layered with chocolate cake, more chocolate mouse, chocolate ganache, shaved chocolate and a berry and chocolate decoration on top. It was lighter than I thought it would be a very tasty. This is another recipe I want to replicate. The sticky toffee pudding looked like it came out of a muffin tin. It had butterscotch chips and a butterscotch sauce. It was delicious and not like other sticky toffee puddings I have had. Again, another winner and another I want to try at home.
While at Wizarding World, you just have to try the specialty beverages. Due to the heat of our trip, we stuck to the cold drinks, but Hot Butterbeer was available. We enjoyed Pumpkin Juice and Pumpkin Fizz at breakfast. We didn’t find a huge difference between the two drinks, both had a lot of pumpkin and apple flavors. If you would like to make Pumpkin Juice at home, see my recipe here.
We also enjoyed both Butterbeer and Frozen Butterbeer during the trip. The Frozen Butterbeer was especially nice when we hit the high point for temperatures during the trip (113 degrees) and helped cool me down. The version at Universal Studios is a bit icy as they serve it from a machine. My version tastes just like the version from the park, but if you want it be be just as icy, I recommend putting it in a blender with some ice and blend until fully combined. Yum! You will see many recipes online that add whipped cream to the drink. This is not how it is served at the park and quite honestly, doesn’t sound refreshing or appealing. My recipes do not include whipped cream to keep the flavors true to what you experience at the Wizarding World.
Before we left to return home, we stopped by Honeydukes. If you really want to see the store, I recommend going early in the day as it gets very crowded later. We even had a chance to talk to the person working there and ask her some questions. In case you were wondering, the No Melt Ice Cream is frosting. Very creative! We selected a variety of fudge and a Cauldron Cake to take home.
My youngest had also selected the Chocolate Cauldron as a treat. The Chocolate Cauldron reminds us of an Easter Bunny, it is a chocolate shaped treat that is hollow in the middle. The top of the cauldron is a white chocolate tinted green with marshmallows and sprinkles. He really enjoyed this treat and I thought the chocolate tasted very good.
The fudge was creamy and delicious. In truth, it took us quite a while to get through it as it was so rick and we could only take small samples to eat at any one time. I created my own version of Butterbeer Fudge after we got home. You can see the recipe here.
The Cauldron Cake was moist and flavorful. It includes the cauldron so you can make it yourself at home. The buttercream frosting was made to look like flames with yellow, orange and red colors. This one will be fun to try at home!
Trip Report Wizarding World of Harry Potter Food Summary
Overall we truly enjoyed all our meals at the Three Broomsticks. It’s expensive, but all theme park food is and to get the atmosphere, quality of food, air conditioning and the ability to sit down, it felt worth it. We didn’t try anything we thought was bad or not worth repeating. One thing we definitely want to try next time is The Great Feast. Based on how wonderful the ribs and chicken we had were, we feel this would be a better value meal for our family. I hope you enjoyed this review. Let me know if you have any questions, I’m happy to provide any insight we have from our trip.
