Firefly’s Roasted Rosemary Tomatoes
I was inspired to make Firefly’s Roasted Rosemary Tomatoes based on the very first episode of Firefly, Serenity. In this episode, the crew takes on passengers and one passenger who joins them on their adventure is Sheppard Book. Sheppard Book comes from a monastery and brought items from their garden with him as part of his payment. One dish we see at dinner is a roasted tomatoes dish. Book states “The important thing is the spices. A man can live on packaged food from here ’til Judgment Day if he’s got enough rosemary.”. I decided that the tomatoes would definitely have had rosemary given the importance Book put on this spice. This is a great, healthy side dish for our Firefly Theme Menu of the Month.

Firefly’s Roasted Rosemary Tomatoes Recipe
- 3 large tomatoes, sliced
- fresh rosemary
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- 2 tsp. olive oil
- Brush the top of the sliced tomatoes with olive oil.
- Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Add a sprig of rosemary on top of each tomato.
- Grill on BBQ on indoor grill until slightly browned.
- Serve immediately.
