Family Favorite Chicken Salad

This is our favorite chicken salad, we’ve been making it for years. This salad is delicious with a wonderful flavor that appeals to many individuals making it a great option for a crowd. This can be served on a croissant or in a bread bowl or over a bed of lettuce. I am sensitive to onion and garlic so we reduce the amount of onion in this recipe and it still tastes great. If you prefer more onion, add at least one additional green onion to the batch of salad.

We often make this for camping trips as it makes a big batch and is easy as it is made ahead and holds well for a number of days. We find it’s also a great picnic recipe for trips to the lake, the pool or to a local ranch for the day. This recipe has been requested so many times, I wanted to share it here. Enjoy!

Family favorite Chicken Salad - delicious big batch salad, wonderful for parties, camping and picnics. Wonderful served with bread or on a bed of lettuce.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups chopped cooked chicken
  • 3 cups grapes, sliced
  • 1 cup slivered almonds, toasted
  • 2 celery ribs, diced
  • 1 to 2 green onions, minced
  • ¾ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp sherry
  • ½ tsp seasoned salt
  • ½ tsp ground pepper

Instructions

  1. Stir all ingredients together. Cover and chill salad until ready to serve.

Notes

Quick fix tip: Use canned chicken to pull this recipe together quickly. Use nonfat yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter version.

  1. I made this recipe tonight. It is excellent. Since I am counting my calories, I substituted light sour cream for the regular. Next time i will try that with the mayo too.
    I did the math on the entire recipe. It makes about 9 cups total and per cup it comes to:
    316 calories
    16.33g Fat
    19g Protein
    12.6g carbohydrates

    1. Yes, exchanging light sour cream for regular is a great option. I have also made this where I substituted plain vanilla yogurt for both the sour cream and mayo and it turned out great. Just another idea to reduce the overall calories and fat while keeping the great flavor of the chicken salad. I’m glad you enjoy this recipe!
