This month our Movie Monday theme is Classic Monster Movies. My movie is Dracula. I decided on a simple but fun drink, Dracula’s Bloody Mocktail. When looking for inspiration, blood was clearly the most obvious choice. Vampires drink blood to stay “alive” or rather undead. The lore will vary here, but often the amount of blood that is drank will contribute to the “health” or strength of the vampire. One that doesn’t drink often will be weaker than one that partakes regularly. In some stories the vampires will make drinks using blood or just drink the blood straight from a pretty cocktail glass. This is the inspiration from my drink.
Vampires are a lot of fun. There are so many books, movies and television shows that involve vampires and so many variations on the vampire lore. Some I really enjoy and others I feel are not quite as fun or aligned with tradition. One piece of lore that is often played with is if vampires can go into the sun. Most of the time the answer is no, they sleep during the day and hunt at night. In Vampire Diaries they created a loop hole by having a witch create a magic ring that allows the vampires to walk in daytime. In Twilight the lore is that the vampires can go out during the day but they sparkle. I must admit, for me, this one was just wrong. In most cases if the vampire is out during daylight, they will burst into flames. This is where my family got that inspired ideas from… I still need to play with this one and develop a recipe I can set on fire. 🙂
Here are some fun movies and television shows that have vampires involved. Some are scary, some are comedies, all are enjoyable in one way or another and expose you to the many varieties of vampire lore. Movie Monday Challenge
On the last (or fourth) Monday of each month, a group of bloggers participate in a #MovieMondayChallenge, hosted by C’mon Get Crafty! We decide on a topic, genre, or specific movie to use for inspiration and everyone gets free reign to create something wonderful!
This month’s challenge was. . . . MONSTER MOVIES! Everyone was allowed to choose their own favorite film so long as it was inspired by the challenge word.
Now let’s see what everyone else was inspired to create for this month’s #MovieMondayChallenge!! If you’d like to join our Facebook group, you can request an invite here.
