Beverage New Orleans Square

Disneyland’s Watermelon Mint Julep

Disneyland’s Watermelon Mint Julep

Disneyland recently introduced a new seasonal drink to the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square; the Watermelon Mint Julep. This new drink is a variation on one of their most popular drinks, the Disneyland Mint Julep.

The drink is available at the Mint Julep Bar which is a walk up window next to the French Market. The seasonal offerings include this drink and Beignets topped with Sour Cherry-flavored Sugar.

This drink is easy to make. First, puree the watermelon in a blender. Watermelon is mostly water anyway, so this will give you a very fluid liquid to work with. I used this to make the simple syrup. This is easy to do on the stove top and the syrup will hold in the fridge for about a week. Combine the watermelon juice, a little water and sugar in the saucepan and cook until it becomes thick, about ten minutes. Cool this completely.

When ready to serve, pour some of the watermelon mint syrup into your glass. Top with crushed ice and Sprite. Lastly add a watermelon spear and a sprig of fresh mint. This drink is light and refreshing, and a bit different from your normal beverage. Enjoy this on a warm summer evening!
