We finish the Countdown to 2020 today with the category “Wild Card”. I decided to share readers favorite recipes that didn’t fit neatly into one of the prior categories. This seemed to hit Beverages, Bread and Salad. We have some delicious recipes in these categories and the top 5 are listed here. I encourage you to check these out!

Top 5 Wild Card from Simply Inspired Meals
Countdown to 2020 - Wild Card
The following recipes didn't fit nicely into the other categories for the countdown but are reader favorites worthy of talking about in our countdown to 2020. Beverages are one of the favorite categories visit for Simply Inspired Meals. We have some creative and very tasty drinks. Three of them made this list. In addition, the Prancing Pony Walnut Bread inspired by the Lord of the Rings films and the Haunted Mansion Fruit Salad continue to be favorites. The bread is amazing, one of my favorites that I've experimented with since starting this site. The fruit salad is amazingly simple, but dark and creepy, perfect for your Halloween meal (or anytime!).
The Cherry Bomb Smoothie is inspired by Wreck-It Ralph. I was inspired to create this Cherry Bomb Smoothie based on the race held toward the end of the movie. My kids love video games, and we enjoy playing racing games together, so I loved the “Cherry Bomb” power used during the race where the racers set off cherry bombs from the side of the Royal Raceway track using sparks from their exhaust. These cherries line the race track as the racers make their way to the top of a multi-tiered chocolate cake. I incorporated chocolate in a sprinkle of chocolate chips on top. This smoothie is delicious and full of healthy cherries, yum!
The Prancing Pony Rustic Walnut Bread is inspired by The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug. At the beginning of the movie we see Gandalf join Thorin Oakenshield at the Prancing Pony in Bree to discuss Thorin’s mission to reclaim the dwarf’s homeland. Both men order a plate with rustic bread, a wedge of cheese and a few tomatoes. There are also multiple scenes throughout The Hobbit movies where we see a large bowl of walnuts. The most notable is when we see Kili resting his head in a bowl of walnuts while being healed. Given the prevalence of walnuts, I thought a bread incorporating walnuts would be perfect.
Disneyland recently introduced a new seasonal drink to the Mint Julep Bar in New Orleans Square; the Watermelon Mint Julep. This new drink is a variation on one of their most popular drinks, the Disneyland Mint Julep.
Disneyland has introduced a new beverage at the Bengal Barbecue in Adventureland called the Jungle Julep. It is described as a tropical slush with a mixture of grape, orange, pineapple and lemon on the menu. From what I have read, it is similar to a fruit punch but blended with ice. It is a pretty purple color in the pictures I’ve seen. It sounds delicious and a bit different from the typical pineapple based tropical drinks. I decided to whip up a recipe and everyone that has tried this has state “boy, that is good”. It is sweet and sour and will make you pucker over time. This has been a fun drink that has been requested multiple times within my household. It’s definitely a keeper.
I wanted to come up with a Disneyland Haunted Mansion inspired dinner to celebrate Halloween and decided on a Haunted Mansion Fruit Salad as a side dish. I wanted the fruits to be black and dark, a little creepy and different to give a haunted effect. At the store I found black grapes which were perfect. In addition, I added black plums that when cut open are a dark red color with the black skin still showing. I also added blackberries. This is a very simple dish to prepare but is yummy and a great addition to the overall meal.
