This month on the Monday Movie Challenge, we are taking on inspiration from Romantic movies. My movie is The Proposal. The food that stood out the most for me was when mom brings homemade cinnamon rolls into her son’s bedroom in the morning so they can discuss an idea she has for their wedding. The woman in the story states she will need to learn how to cook to keep her man happy. These Cinnamon Rolls certainly will do that job, at least in my house with three hungry men. They turned out so delicious that my family has been hoping I would make them again very soon. 

“The Proposal” is a romantic comedy where two people who don’t even like each other end up in a situation where they are pretending to be engaged. I don’t want to give too much away, but there are a lot of awkward situations they get into and eventually, they find they do like each other quite a bit. It’s a fun movie that is definitely worth watching.

Cinnamon Rolls

Cinnamon Rolls


  • 1 cup lukewarm milk (100 to 110 degrees)
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/3 cup salted butter, cut up
  • 4 1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp. instant yeast or active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract


  1. Mix together and knead all of the dough ingredients, by hand, mixer, or bread machine, to make a smooth, soft dough.
  2. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, turn to grease all sides, cover the bowl, and let the dough rise for 60 minutes, or until it's nearly doubled in bulk.
    Fill and shape:
  1. Gently deflate the dough, and transfer it to a lightly greased work surface. Roll the dough into a 16" x 21" rectangle.
  2. Spread the dough with the 1/3 cup butter. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon, and sprinkle it evenly over the dough.
  3. Starting with a short end, roll the dough into a log and cut it into 12 slices.
  4. Place the buns in a lightly greased 9" x 13" pan. Cover the pan and let the buns rise until they're nearly doubled, about 30 minutes.
  5. While the buns are rising, preheat the oven to 400°F.
  6. Uncover the buns, and bake them until they're golden brown, about 20-25 minutes, until thermometer reads 200 degrees. Be sure to test the dough and not the filling. While the buns are baking, make the icing.
  1. In a small bowl, soften the butter and cream cheese, but do not melt. Beat together the cream cheese, butter, sugar, and vanilla into a spreading consistency.
  2. Remove the buns from the oven. Spread the icing on the buns while they're warm.
  3. Serve buns warm, or at room temperature. Wrap in plastic and store at room temperature for a day or so; freeze for longer storage.
