Delightful Banana Nut Bread is a family favorite. This bread is light and delicious. Banana and walnut flavors really shine.

We make this bread quite often. It is great for those hectic mornings or for taking with you to an outing. We often attend swim meets on the weekends. That usually means we arrive at the pool very early. This banana bread has been a great grab and go option that is filling and has ingredients that are good for our kids for the competition that lies ahead for them. It has a definite banana flavor without being overwhelming and the walnuts add a nice crunch and nutty flavor. This is a delightful bread for breakfast, tea or a snack.

This bread is also easy to make ahead and freeze. I am making some now to freeze for a camping trip we will be taking this summer. While it’s hard to resist diving in and having a piece right away based on the amazing smell that comes from the kitchen, it’s worth it to have self control now so we can enjoy this quick, easy and delicious breakfast while enjoying the great outdoors.

Banana Nut Bread

Yield: 1 loaf
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Family Favorite! Hearty and easy breakfast for busy mornings.


  • 1¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup mashed ripe banana
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • ½ cup chopped nuts; pecans or walnuts


  1. Combine first four ingredients in a large bowl; make a well in center of mixture. Combine egg, mashed bananas, milk, vanilla and oil; add mixture to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Stir in nuts.
  2. Spoon batter into a greased 8½ x 4½ inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 minutes then turn out of pan onto cooling rack.
